Pop-up “SheBeen” Provides Women With a Safe Space
A stylish “SheBeen”, a pop-up women-only bar, has been opened in Soweto, Gauteng to celebrate Women’s Month in South Africa.
The establishment opened the day after National Women’s Day, Thursday 10 August, within the RockerFella Tavern. Along with its plush pink interior and top-quality offerings, the bar offers security outside, CCTV cameras, guarded bathrooms and visible personnel on hand to ensure that the patrons have a safe and stress-free evening.
A selection of powerful South African women attended the opening evening, including Dr Musa Mthombeni, Lebogang Mashile, Lamiez Holworthy-Morule, Asanda Ngoasheng and Khuli Chana gathered to discuss some of the challenges women face within the country on a daily basis.
The idea for the “SheBeen” – which was funded by Brutal Fruit Spritzer – arose from a social listening exercise in which women had discussed a dream to be able to attend such an establishment without worrying about their safety.
“The establishment of ‘SheBeen’ was born out of our brand proposition of ‘You Belong’, which seeks to promote women’s joy, belonging and freedom, without any hesitation or interference,” Candice van den Bosch, acting Head of Brand at Brutal Fruit Spritzer, said on the night of the launch.
If you’re eager to give it a visit, the SheBeen will be open from Thursday to Sunday every week for the rest of August.
